Every December the same problem comes back: what do you give the person who already has everything, or the friend who is impossible to buy for? The answer is usually not a bigger gift but a more personal one. These unique Christmas gift ideas are grouped by the kind of person you're shopping for, so you can match the present to their interests rather than to a price tag.
How to choose a unique Christmas gift
- Start with what they love. A series they rewatch, a hobby, a place they keep going back to. The best gifts show you've noticed.
- Choose one good thing over several small ones. A single well-made piece is remembered long after a bag of stocking fillers.
- Think about after Christmas. Will they use it, display it or remember it in March? If yes, it's a good gift.
- Check delivery dates. Handmade and personalised gifts take longer. Our lamps are made to order, so Christmas orders close on December 08.
Handmade gifts
1. A handmade resin lamp
A resin lamp is a sculpted scene cast in clear epoxy resin and lit from within: a display piece by day and a soft night light after dark. Because each one is poured and finished by hand, it's genuinely one of a kind. Browse our handmade Christmas gifts, from dragons and wizards to whales and astronauts.
2. Hand-thrown pottery
A mug or bowl from a local potter gets used every day, and no two glazes come out quite the same.
3. A commissioned illustration
A portrait of their pet, their home or a favourite place, drawn by an independent artist, is a gift nobody else will give them.
4. Hand-poured candles
Small-batch candles in a scent tied to a memory, like pine forests, sea air or old books, make a thoughtful smaller gift.
Gifts by interest
5. For anime and fantasy fans
Fans usually own the posters and the figures already. Something handmade and displayable stands out: a Goku lamp for an anime fan, or a Harry Potter lamp or Lord of the Rings lamp for a fantasy reader. See our guide to Christmas gifts for anime and fantasy fans.
6. For dragon lovers
A sculpted dragon lamp, a dragon chess set or a special-edition dragon novel. More ideas in our dragon gifts for adults guide.
7. For ocean lovers
A whale lamp, a whale-watching trip or a symbolic marine adoption. See our full list of ocean gifts.
8. For space and astronomy fans
An astronaut lamp, a star map of a meaningful date or a night at a dark-sky park. More in our space gifts for adults guide.
9. For gamers
A desk upgrade they wouldn't buy themselves: a soft accent lamp beside the monitor, a quality desk mat or a set of custom keycaps.
10. For readers
A beautifully bound edition of a book they love, a reading light, or a bookshelf piece that matches the world of their favourite series.
Experiences
11. A class or workshop
Pottery, cooking, resin art or woodworking: something they've always wanted to try, with a date in the diary.
12. Tickets to something
A concert, a film screening, a museum exhibition or a game event, ideally one you go to together.
13. A weekend away
Even one night somewhere new can mean more than any object.
Small but thoughtful
14. A handwritten letter
Tuck it in with any gift. It's often the part people keep.
15. A photo book of the year
A printed book of shared photos is quick to make online and lasts for years.
